In November 2016, the Republic of Cyprus announced an invitation for tender regarding the development of the Port and the Marina of Larnaca. This project was named after the goddess of the sea and wife of Poseidon, Amfitriti. The competent ministry, in cooperation with the ERNST&YOUNG Company, studied the Amfitriti project and concluded to the following 3 investments options:

The Amfitriti project emphasizes on the fact that Cyprus is located in the eastern part of the Mediterranean Sea and for the destinations of Rhode, Crete, Antalya, Marmaris, Alexandria and Port Said, a day in needed to arrive. Thus, the best commercial exploitation plan of the new Port takes under consideration relevant infrastructure for the accommodation of large cruise ships, of at least 250 m long, and of megayaghts for the exact same reason.

 

In addition, the location of Larnaca, in the center of Cyprys, provides the opportunity to tourists and visitors to make one-day and short-term excursions not only in the area of Larnaca but throughout Cyprus. Great archaeological sites, beautiful locations and beaches with crystal-clear waters are all within easy reach from the city of Larnaca. In the advantages of the city, regarding the interest for such kind of investments, the small distance of the center of the city from the Port is taken under consideration, which will make the transport of the tourists an easy task, and the fact that the international and main airport of Cyprus is located in Larnaca is a significant advantage as well. 

 

On 19/06/17 the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Works announced the three companies in the final list of strategic investors and assured that the final option would be at the beginning of 2018. The three companies are: 

Α) Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Company and Cabo Marina S. de R.L. de C.V 

This is a joint venture between the Dubai Port Company and the American IGY Marina. Dubai port has 78 land and sea terminals in 40 countries, across continents and 37 000 employees. IGY Marina has 15 marinas in the US, Mexico, Colombia, Panama and Caribbean.

Β) AMPA Ltd & Israel Shipyards Ltd

They are Israeli interest companies, with AMPA specializing in land developments. Israel Shipyards is a former state-owned company with one of the largest shipyards in the Mediterranean Sea.

C) China Communications Construction Company Limited 

The largest of the three companies claiming the harbor and the marina of Larnaca. It is a Chinese state-owned company with more than 100,000 employees in all over the world. It is the largest designer and builder of ports in China and the 3rd largest in the world.
